A year ago when the pandemic started and we were placed in quarantine, I downloaded TikTok as a joke. You’ve probably heard it before, a tale as old as time, but it’s true. Now a year on and many sleepless nights later, I’m an avid TikTok scroller and I’m not afraid to admit it.
Amidst the random dancing routines and cooking hacks, beauty videos still hold the reins on my TikTok algorithm. It’s hard to ignore the rise of beauty TikTokers, or Skinfluencers, especially when a single viral beauty video can sell out a brand or product within a week. Remember Cerave? I still can’t get my hands on them and it has been a year.
Thanks to the rise of beauty Skinfluencers on TikTok, there is now a vast open sea of makeup and skincare hacks that we’ve all never heard of before. And the best part? They work! Whether it’s a new way to wear your eyeliner, or if putting a primer after your foundation really helps to achieve the ultimate facetune IRL look, the rise of beauty trends on tiktok only means that we’re all getting better at what we do best–spending money on skincare that promise results and looking bomb with makeup.
Who knew adding a heart shaped highlight at the tip of your nose could completely transform your face? If you’re a makeup novice like me, you’ll understand how intimidating contouring your nose can be. But thanks to TikTok & its sea of creators, getting a button nose now is as easy as drawing a tiny little heart.
Before you click away from the page–no, you’re not going to look like Batman with this eyeliner hack. You are, however, going to have the slickest & sharpest eyeliner wing you’ve only ever dreamed of. Stop spending previous minutes of your morning fixing the line with concealer or a thicker wing. Try drawing your eyeliner this way instead and watch as you get the perfect flick every single time.
Look straight in the mirror without tilting your head back and draw the starting line of your wing as you normally would. Once you have the line down, connect the tip of the line to where your crease ends, fill in the empty space, and you’re done. Easy.
All you need is a bathrobe sash, nimble fingers, and a little bit of coordination. It’s a lot easier to get healthier hair when you’re not using the curling iron all the time. So if you want soft, bouncy curls with zero heat, all you have to do is wrap sections of your damp hair around a bathrobe sash and let it air dry overnight.
Once again, thank you TikTok for teaching me something I wish 13 year-old me knew.
A puffy face is one of the few things makeup can’t solve. No amount of contouring, eye shadow, or concealer can hide the fact that you had a little too much sodium the night before. Of course, there are home remedies like stacking your pillows or using a cold spoon to debloat your face, but nothing works quite as well as a facial Gua Sha.
Gua Sha isn’t new but thanks to TikTok, more and more people are enjoying its amazing benefits once again. If you need an instantaneous way to make your face visibly slimmer, grab a Gua Sha tool and follow along to the TikTok below.
Apparently all you need to get a real life facetune blurring effect for your skin is to apply a primer after your foundation. I’ve tried it once and I’m still reeling from disbelief. I’m convinced that either 1. I’ve been doing makeup wrong all these years or 2. I’m a witch.
I’m not sure which one to believe but all I know is that I’m never putting my primer before my foundation ever again. Pores? Never heard of her.
