Fashion is changing, and it’s not just in the way it looks. Beyond seasonal trends and fashion faux pas, the pandemic has helped to spotlight that consumer shopping habits are shifting away from impulse buying influenced by short-term fashion trends. Instead, more people are consuming responsibly and only purchasing investment clothing pieces that can stand the test of time.
Dressing down and putting comfort first is now a new lifestyle and attitude that everyone is embracing. This means high quality & comfortable textiles, airy silhouettes, and a neutral colour palette make up a timeless outfit that could stand the test of a pandemic.
How will the state of fashion look like for the next year, and what other trends do we see making a comeback? Keep reading to find out.
Loungewear
With social distancing and quarantine becoming a regularity in a pandemic world, staying comfortable while keeping safe at home means that loungewear can finally take center stage. It’s the perfect stay-at-home uniform, and a trend that can never go out of style. You’ll always need the perfect set of loungewear at home–whether in a pandemic, or if you’re just really into self-care Sundays.
Statement Zoom Tops
For busier days where you have places to be and video meetings to attend, even your nicest set of loungewear might not make the cut. The easiest fix? Statement tops made just for zoom!
These tops are polished, stylish, and just comfortable enough to keep you feeling breezy while you’re going through the daily grind from home. Bonus points for statement tops coming back in trend because when you’re done with the day, slip out of the pajama shorts you were hiding away from the webcam and into a pair of jeans to take your top from desk to dinner.
Before you jump into buying every statement top you see, the key is to look for one that you can see yourself wearing out of the house. Some tops look great on camera, but it’s also important to feel just as confident when wearing it out.
Face Masks
This goes without saying but face masks are here to stay. They may not have started out as a fashion accessory, but at this point, they might as well be. Face masks take up a lot of space on our face and if we’re going to be wearing it for the whole day, there’s no harm in choosing one that best captures our creative flair.
Having A Cohesive Colour Palette
Colour can be a powerful tool when navigating through fashion without relying on trends. A strong, cohesive colour palette that drives an outfit together can help to refresh your style in a way that doesn’t require you to be at the top of trends.
With colours, experimentation can be tricky. If the silhouette doesn’t quite fit, safety pins and a trip to the seamstress can save you dollars on getting a completely new piece. But with colours, experimenting and ending up with something that clashes with your daily style is a trickier problem to fix.
If the fashion world is moving forward with the lack of trends, having a solid foundational sense of style and colour will take you far. The colour of your clothes can affect the entire vibe of your style, and we should all start paying attention to how our new purchases can fit seamlessly into our closets.
And this doesn’t only apply to monochromatic colour palettes! If you’re somebody who prefers loud, bold colours–then go for that! If you’re into neutrals, sure, that works. Whatever the colour palette, just pay careful consideration to its versatility with the rest of your closet.
Comfort First, Now & Forever
Regardless if you’re dressing up or down, comfort will always come first. With most of us welcoming the idea of making working from home a permanent arrangement, choosing to stay comfortable all day in loungewear has trickled into ensuring that we get to spend our weekends in an equally as comfortable outfit.
Gone are the days where I would squeeze myself into the most uncomfortable clothes just to fit a certain style. I’m not making sure that I feel as good as I look–and that means opting for clothing pieces with higher quality fabrics and a fit that works perfectly for my body.
