There are plenty of promising new shows to catch on Netflix in July. But there is without one doubt that the much-anticipated release of the month belongs to season two of last year’s hit comic book adaption, Umbrella Academy.
With our favourite TV streaming service releasing plenty of action films, July seems to be an action-packed month for Netflix as well. More importantly, the stars that headline these shows run the gamut from A-lister Charlize Theron to crowd favourite Katherine Langford. While Netflix doesn’t have a promising repertoire of Korean shows this July, it does an extensive selection of thrillers to boot.

1. Warrior Nun
Based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn, the new fantasy Netflix series ropes in rookie (but promising) Portuguese actress Alba Baptista to star the kickass heroine Ava, a 19 years old lady who wakes up in a morgue with new found powers. Torn between an ancient battle between Heaven and Hell, Ava sets out to unravel the mysteries surrounding the artifact embedded on her back.
Warrior Nun is available on Netflix on July 2, 2020.
2. The Baby-Sitters Club
The reboot of the 1995’s “The Baby-Sitters Club” on Netflix stars new blood Shay Rudolph as one of the shows’ iconic babysitters, Stacey Mcgrill. Together with Stacey, teenagers from East Coast Kristy Thomas (Sophie Grace), Claudia Kishi (Momona Tamada), Mary Anne Spier (Maria Baker), and Dawn Schafer (Xochitl Gomez) start up their own baby-sitting business. For the uninitiated, the series is based on Ann M. Martin’s cult classic coming-of-age novels. If anything, this series is perfect to catch with the family.

3. The Old Guard
Starring A-lister Charlize Theron, who is joined by “If Beale Street Could Talk” ‘s lead actress Kiki Layne and Dutch award-winning actor Matthias Schoenaerts, “The Old Guard” features a covert group of immortals and their centuries-long quest to protect the world. But when their unique abilities are exposed, it’s up to a select few — Andy (Charlize Theron) and Nile (Ki Ki Layne), the newest recruit — to save the eliminate the threat.

4. Cursed
We are well aware of the stories of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. This July, Netflix is bringing in a new twist to our favourite folklore as told from a brand-new perspective. Centering on the legendary lady of the lake, Nimue, the new Arthurian tale promises an equally exciting and memorable storyline that stars Katherine Langford (from 13 Reasons Why) as Nimue, Devon Terrell as Arthur, Gustaf Skarsgård as Merlin and more.

5. The Kissing Booth 2
To endure a long-distance relationship is arguably one of the most difficult phases of life. For Elle Evans (played by Joey King), she soon finds herself facing just that with her reformed bad-boy boyfriend Noah Flynn (played by Jacob Elordi), who is off to pursue his education at Harvard. As she returns to her high school as a senior, she befriends the new, handsome and charismatic classmate Marco (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and things start to get a tad awkward. The second season of The Kissing Booth is directed by Vince Marcello and is based on the novels by Beth Reekles.

6. Umbrella Academy S2
It’s been close to a year since the release of the Umbrella Academy. We were left on a cliffhanger following an apocalypse and a harrowing showdown between Vanya Hargreeves (Ellen Page) and her other Hargreaves siblings. And while the world starts to crumble, Five (Aiden Gallagher) manages to narrowly pull the siblings into a time warp which scatters them into different timelines. The family must find a way to reunite all while being hunted by a group of skilled Swedish assassins. Watch the groovy teaser trailer here.
